| Sculpture for Her Majesty Queen Margrethe On Thursday September 16th Her Majesty Queen Margrethe visited Slagelse, which is the home city of Per Hillo. On that occasion Per Hillo was asked to create a sculpture, which the business Frese A/S was to present Her Majesty with during the royal visit. “It is a tremendous honor creating a sculpture for Her Majesty Queen Margrethe. The citizens of Slagelse are proud of their city’s history, and therefore, to create a sculpture in the light of the city’s historical highlights is very exciting,” Per Hillo states. Scroll down and see all 3 photoseries! Photos from the presentation September 16th. Dissemination of the history The sculpture, which is created in bronze, consists of several pieces and symbols, - pieces and symbols, which poetical disseminate the interesting history of Slagelse. So is the one of the pieces inspired by the shape of the memorial stone in the honor of Hans Tausen, which is erected close to the Antvorskov Abbey Church Ruin. Another part of the sculpture refers to the tallest flagpole in Denmark, which was erected up in 1969 in the memory of the story of the Dannebrog, which fell from the sky in 1219. A third part refers to Anders the Saint, who was the first minister at the Church of Saint Peders in the end of the 1100 century. Anders the Saint entered into a bet with King Valdemar. While King Valdemar would have a bath, Anders the Saint was to ride a nine-days-old foal, and the land he would cover, would be given to the city. During the ride Anders the Saint dropped his glove and a source originated, from this, the Source of Anders the Saint. Somehow, in a strange way, Andes the Saint won this bet. Another story about Anders the Saint: Anders the Saint travelled to the Holy land, and the rumor says he attended a church service at that place as well as in Slagelse. To me, it is about communicating emotions and stories. I wish to move the viewer, involve and fascinate. My art is about communication and the way we interact with one another. And the history of Denmark is definitely something, which connect us and creates a mutual foundation. Composed by a large number of historical symbols, this is why the sculpture creates a touch to history, a sensation of rootedness. The sculpture Photoes from the creating of the sculpture |
